I don’t want to see adverts for things that I have searched for appear on random other websites or at the side of my gmail. Google seems to suggest this is a nice personalised service for ‘me’. Obviously it’s not, it’s to get inside my head and target me to BUY MORE! Apart from that sometimes it can be embarrassing when they pop up and you are showing something to a friend or client (must stop looking at bondage gear and whips ;-)).

How do you switch it off? Well you need to alter your Google Ads Settings by going to https://www.google.com/settings/ads and then clicking on the ‘opt out’ settings for both email and web. I tried this several times and nearly gave up before I realised that the opt out is near the bottom of the page and a confirmation box comes up near the top of the page that is hidden by the top frame bar. So you have to scroll back up to see it. Now I’m not saying they’re trying to put you off or anything… But they are!

PS All those interesting versions of the Google Logo that appear each day can be found at http://www.google.com/doodles/ and you can buy stuff with them on at http://www.zazzle.com/googledoodles
